ServantOfCats

Matt von Hippel issued the challenge and they actually took it up.

JigsawJournalist

Can someone explain what a scattering amplitude is in simple terms?

LostInTheCosmos_BRB

30 billion terms in the expanded answer. My brain hurts.

TetraPackThinker

I bet the physics community is having a meltdown right now.

FairlyUnpopularOpinion

This is like AlphaFold for particle physics.

RotatingPerspective

But does it actually understand the physics or just churn numbers?

EditThankForGold

The AI didn't discover new physics, it just computed something very hard.

LurkingForYears

Still impressive that it ran for days without human intervention.

MischiefManaged_Barely

I wonder how many grad students this just put out of a job.

CrackerWithCritique

The prompt was literally one sentence. One sentence!

SlylyCorrect

Anthropic is quietly winning the AI race while everyone talks about OpenAI.

SummitSeeker_Barely

Nine loops in planar N=4 SYM is no joke. This is real.

OldSchoolHealthBar

What's the practical application of this though?

UpdatePleaseAndThankYou

Someone check on the string theorists, they might be panicking.

NeatlyWrappedNonsense

The fact that it used existing methods is actually reassuring.

TentedWithThoughts_2

So AI is a tool that can do tedious calculations faster than us. Shocking.

SudokuScholar

But the real question is: can it formulate new theories?

TwistingWithTruth

This is going to change how theoretical physics research is done.

PonderingWithoutPurpose

I want to see the look on the reviewers' faces at the journal.

LunchboxLuminaire

Anthropic just casually announced this like it's no big deal.
